To celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadan recently, Gembrook MP Brad Battin brought together a wide range of community leaders from throughout Cardinia to have a chat with one another over a delicious Eid feast.

Eid al-Fitr, also known as the “festival of breaking the fast” is a time where the muslim community can get together, reflect and celebrate the end of their month-long dawn-to-sunrise fasting – and what better way than to do that with food and conversation?

A range of distinguished guests came along to Mr Battin’s celebratory feast at Beaconsfield’s Kathmandu Palace, a Nepalese and Indian restaurant, on Sunday 23 May where they enjoyed a lovely afternoon together.

“It was fantastic to be able to host an Eid celebration on the weekend to learn more about the Islamic faith, culture and the Arabic language,” Mr Battin said.

“It’s vital as a community we respect all faiths and one of the best ways we can do this is by participating in religious and cultural celebrations with our neighbours.”

The Consul General of Pakistan, Mr Sardar Adnan Rashid was in attendance at the celebration, as well as many other esteemed multicultural community leaders.

Mr Battin hoped that in 2022, with the easing of Covid restrictions, they would be able to expand the event for more people to attend in future.
