Driving past Gumbuya World in Tynong, it’s hard to miss the famous 20-metre long golden pheasant statue standing pride of place at the front gate – and now you have the chance to name it!

The team at Gumbuya World are excited to launch a public naming campaign for the giant bird, as they celebrate the opening of a brand new pheasant exhibition at the fun park – and the winning entry won’t go away empty handed.

Kicking off on Friday 11 June, all Victorians are eligible to throw their idea for the giant pheasant’s name in the ring via the Gumbuya World Facebook page, and entries will be open for two weeks, until Friday 25 June.

The winner, who comes up with the most creative name, will receive free entry to Gumbuya World for them and their family for an entire year – and the bragging rights for naming the iconic statue.

Gumbuya World CEO Ron Weinzierl said that he and the team were incredibly excited to give the community a chance to name their long-standing statue and were looking forward to seeing the entrants’ creativity.

“The pheasant has stood proudly at the park’s entrance since the early 1980s when it was known as Gumbuya Park, and to this day is one of the most popular sights at Gumbuya World, so we’re thrilled to give one lucky community member the chance to name it,” Mr Weinzierl said.

“We’re looking for the most original and creative name that also leans into the Australian and Indigenous background of Gumbuya World.”

Originally purchased by Gumbuya’s first owner, Ron Rado, the giant pheasant has stood on watch for almost 30 years now and pays homage to the history of the site – as Gumbuya used to be a pheasant farm before it was converted to a family wildlife park in 1978.

The new pheasant exhibition is just part of the fun to be had at Gumbuya World, with families also able to enjoy the new Aussie outback experience, including ‘true blue’ activities like cow milking, sheep shearing and whip cracking.

Being the only water, wildlife and theme park in the state, there’s something at Gumbuya World for everyone – so make sure you get your name ideas submitted soon for your chance to win!

The winning name will be announced on Monday 28 June via Facebook. For more information visit https://gumbuya.com.au/
