A flood watch has been issued for Bunyip River and Dandenong Creek.

VicEmergency issued the alert Tuesday 8 June saying flooding was expected across Gippsland and parts of North East and central Victoria from late Wednesday evening.

Rainfall totals of 60-100 mm are expected across the flood watch area through Wednesday and Thursday, with up to 150-250 mm likely about the ranges, due to an east coast low bringing heavy rainfall.

It is recommended people monitor local conditions and remain alert.

Plan ahead by deciding what you and your family will do if flooding impacts you.

For information on how to prepare go to www.ses.vic.gov.au/get-ready/floodsafe.

This flood watch means that people living or working along rivers and streams must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop.

You can stay informed by listening to emergency broadcasters and monitoring warnings.

SES advises that all community members should never walk, ride or drive through floodwater and never allow children to play in floodwater.

Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains during and after heavy rain and keep well clear of fallen power lines.

Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks, and heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
