It’s been a difficult year for many, but passionate local Scout Meaghan Venables hasn’t let that get in her way as she continues to push forward and work towards her Scouting goals.

The Cardinia District Scouts were proud to present Ms Venables with her beads for completing the leader of adults training course – a fantastic achievement and one she said was an honour to receive.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Ms Venables said, “but just like any award, it’s such an honour to receive it and I will wear it with pride.”

Ms Venables, a passionate community member, said that the training course had taught her a lot of invaluable leadership skills, but most of all, helped her own personal development as well.

“It’s an advanced course and is basically there to help you develop and define yourself in your leadership qualities and skills,” Ms Venables said of her recent achievement, but added that it was important to remember that the work of Scout leaders was all about helping the youth to grow and having a bit of fun along the way.

“You go into Scouts and become a leader and learn whatever you can to give back to the youth – I think that’s such an important thing to remember,” she said.

“We can learn, but we can have fun at the same time and create this environment where we can develop our own personal skills too.”

Ms Venables, a Rover Scout, is currently working to complete the Baden Powell award, a prestigious Scouting honour, and something that she said was proving to be a good “challenge” – especially as she juggles that with raising her two-year-old daughter and another baby on the way.

Ms Venables is clearly an inspiring young woman with a strong drive to help the local community, and she has a bright Scouting future ahead of her!
