A graduate of Beaconsfield’s St Francis Xavier College has been acknowledged for her strong performance in Year 12 during 2020.

Despite a long period of remote learning due to COVID-19, Rhiannon Gallagher achieved a perfect study score of 50 in Sports and Recreation (VCE VET) and was awarded a Premier’s VCE Award for her efforts last week.

Rhiannon said she was glad all her hard work had paid off.

“My VET sports teacher had high expectations of me, as I had done well in previous years. I wanted to exceed my potential,” she said.

Rhiannon was the St Francis Xavier College Sports Captain in 2020 and was active in various sporting communities outside of school.

She represented the state country basketball youth league and played seniors and semi-professional level basketball.

Rebecca Cetrola, Deputy Principal and Head of Campus at St Francis Xavier College, said Rhiannon was always an exemplary student.

“Rhiannon was always very driven, committed and yearned to do her best. She was also well supported by her mother throughout her time at the college. Her mum was always at every event,” Ms Cetrola said.

Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Sale Maria Kirkwood congratulated Rhiannon for receiving the prestigious award.

“Rhiannon is a shining example of our vision for students to become engaged and successful learners,” Ms Kirkwood said.

“Her approach to education reflects the aspirations of our Catholic schools, to spread the message of hope in the world, while encouraging students to reach their full potential.”

The Premier’s VCE Awards recognise the top-performing students in the state.

This year, 297 students were recognised with awards for their outstanding results.
