The Kooweerup community has been able to celebrate a young boy’s birthday with a colourful drive-by birthday celebration.

Spencer turned five on Friday 1 October and was adamant he wanted to share his birthday handing out cupcakes to the community in a Covid-safe way.

The family set up in the driveway of Rustic Rubble with a table and Covid-safe goody bags for people and kids to take home with them as they walked past.

“He loves people but struggles with interactions with people, so when he asked it was a big surprise as its outside of his comfort zone,“ Spencer’s mum, Coral said.

“We had about 30-40 people come out to see Spencer, countless online support and messages.“

Coral said the day was a huge success.

“As a parent I was proud of Spencer and what he did, it was an amazing day full of so many happy faces, laughs and getting to know more people in our community,“ she said.

“We met more people on the day than we have in the three years we have been in Kooweerup. We will now know more faces at the park, shops and in the community, because of this simple action.

“It was definitely an positive experience to watch and be part of.“

Coral said Spencer’s favourite part of his big day was handing out the cupcakes to people, followed by “making new friends forever“.

“We feel so lucky to live in such a wonderful town, who supported Spencer and us in Spencer’s birthday wish,“ Coral said.

“We can not be more thankful for the support, kindness, help and love the community offered to make the day possible.

“Without them it would have not come alive, and been such an amazing time for not only us but the rest of Kooweerup both online and in person.“

The local CFA even drove past in the fire truck to surprise Spencer as well.
