A slow moving local was saved by police last week after attempting a dare devil move that could have ended very badly!

Officers from the Cardinia Highway Patrol were travelling along the Princes Highway in Pakenham on Thursday 4 November when they noticed someone on the road who was certainly tempting fate.

Despite having a hard shell, the brave little turtle was surely no match for a fast-moving car and so the officers sprang into action for a quick (albeit unlikely) rescue mission.

The highway patrol officers made an emergency U-turn, in order to stop this “vulnerable road user” from being struck by oncoming traffic.

Being picked up and rescued from the bitumen, “Tank” the turtle was a little shy at first, but slowly came out of his shell.

He was safely removed from the busy highway and returned to his natural habitat by the police – it was a close call, but it seems all’s well that ends well!
