Tribute to Timmy

Motorists are being urged to follow road rules at all times, especially when traffic controllers are out working on the roads.

Roadworkers across Victoria have made touching tributes to Timmy Rakei, the 44 year-old man who was sadly killed in a Carrum Downs hit and run recently, and it was no different here in the Cardinia Shire.

On the afternoon of Thursday 11 November, a neon roadwork sign on the Monash Freeway was repurposed to pay tribute to Mr Rakei, who was sadly killed while working as a traffic controller.

Motorists heading inbound on the freeway all slowed for the roadworks near a Berwick exit, but no doubt also took a moment to reflect when they saw the illuminated message ‘RIP Timmy Rakei’ beaming from the sign.

Mr Rakei’s tragic death serves as a reminder to all motorists to slow down and obey roadwork regulations – they are there for a reason after all.

Rest in peace Timmy Rakei.
