History repeats itself at the Emerald Museum

Peter Brown and Roy Kendall meet again in Emerald.

Meet the two former footy foes from the 1959 Mountain District Football League who played in the grand final at Monbulk between Upper Ferntree Gully and Emerald some 62 years ago.

The two gentlemen met up again by chance at the Emerald Museum on Wednesday 22 June.

Peter Brown was travelling with the Auburn Probus Group on an Emerald Heritage Tour and started chatting to museum volunteer Roy Kendall.

Peter Brown played in the back pocket that day and was also the resting ruckman and Roy Kendall was playing the half-back flank for Emerald.

Upper Ferntree Gully was coached by ‘Bags’ Lowry, formerly from Port Melbourne.

Peter said that ‘Bags’ used him as a step ladder to take his high marks as stop marks and that his back took evidence.
