Schools across Cardinia have celebrated Book Week with colourful costume parades and inspiring visits from authors.

On Friday 26 August, St Clare’s Primary School celebrated Book Week by encouraging students and staff to come dressed as a book character.

There was a wide variety of characters ranging from crayons who wanted to quit (The Day The Crayons Quit) to Miss Trunchbull (Matilda).

The day started with a whole school character parade and was followed by students participating in activities that celebrated the Children’s Book Council of Australia shortlisted books.

It was wonderful to see the school community celebrating together the endless possibilities of Dreaming with Eyes Open.

Bridgewood Primary School in Officer celebrated Book Week with a range of activities.

The students were visited by local author Danielle Hughes, who shared her books The Lost Unicorn and Mystica.

Students also experienced a Scholastic Book Fair and a dress-up day, with a parade in the afternoon.

The students and staff of Pakenham Primary School also loved getting into the spirit of Book Week.

A special Book Week parade was held on Wednesday 24 August with students and staff encouraged to engage in this year’s theme Dreaming with Eyes Open and come to school dressed as some of their favourite book characters.

What outstanding efforts were put into the costumes this year!
