Nar Nar Goon footballers and cricketers now have a new oval surface to showcase their talents.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing MP joined Cardinia Shire Council deputy mayor Jack Kowarzik and the Nar Nar Goon Football Club on Saturday 29 April to officially open the transformed oval, made possible by a $250,000 investment from the Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.

Ms Shing said the oval upgrade included installation of a more durable turf as well as a new irrigation and drainage system helping to weatherproof the surface, meaning the clubs have a more reliable ground capable of handling weather extremes and greater numbers on the oval.

“This oval upgrade has made a massive difference to the quality, durability, and safety of the venue and will provide ongoing benefits to players and umpires for years to come,” she said.

“Our record investments in new and upgraded sporting facilities across the region are also helping more people to get active and join a local club, group, or team – which is great for competition, social connection, and physical health and well-being.”

As the only oval in this growing community centre, the facility is an important hub for local sport, especially for the Nar Nar Goon Football Club and Nar Nar Goon Maryknoll Cricket Club.

Harriet Shing MP acknowledged project partners Cardinia Shire Council and the Federal Government for their commitment and investment to deliver the upgrades.
