Just after midnight on Saturday 16 March, police from the Pakenham Tasking Unit were patrolling in Officer when they checked a Ford Focus sedan, which revealed it was displaying stolen registration plates.

Officers followed the vehicle at a distance whilst requesting assistance from the nearby police airwing (POLAIR). Once in position, POLAIR was able to relay information, whilst following the vehicle to the Pakenham officers on the ground.

The Ford Focus eventually came to a stop on McGregor Road in Pakenham and the driver had decamped, jumping through the rear of properties along Wakenshaw Crescent.

POLAIR had observed everything and was able to pinpoint the exact location of the driver, who was arrested hiding in the rear of a property.

A 29-year-old man from Pakenham was arrested. Further checks revealed the Ford Focus was stolen and police also located what is believed to be stolen property in the vehicle.

The man was charged with theft of motor vehicle, driving whilst suspended and other theft related charges.

He was bailed to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates Court.
