From a selection of native animals to some of the South East’s best culinary offerings, this year’s Bunyip Show will feature the best of the region’s agricultural treasures.

Running from 9am to 3pm on Sunday 24 March at the Bunyip Recreation Reserve, the show will feature a range of competitions, including goats, sheep, cattle, fleece, pavilion, poultry, dogs, dog high jump and horses.

Bunyip and District Agricultural Show Society president Andrew Spierings said the show committee are proud of the show’s agricultural focus.

“It’s far more a true country show and probably geared more towards young families,“ he said.

“It’s a much smaller family affair and we like to have it that way.

“It’s a good value day out for a young family.“

Mr Spierings said other offerings also include pony rides, historical machinery, face painting, a classic car display, the gumboot throw competition and an expanded pavilion, with entries for food and art and craft open until Friday 22 March.

“There’s a lot more focus on having free activities,“ he said.

“We will have an expanded reptile and native animals display,“ he said.

“A flyball competition is in the pipeline to debut this year.“

Mr Spierings said the return of the dog high jump will also be a “spectacle“ for showgoers, alongside the regular animal competitions.

“Horses are always pretty strong at the Bunyip Show,“ he said.

“The dogs are also a well-established competition.“

Tickets are available for $10 for adults, $20 for two adults and two children, $5 for students and $5 for seniors, while children under 13 can enter for free.
