Chaotic crash in Berwick

Dramatic scenes erupted on High Street in Berwick on Tuesday, with an allegedly stolen car containing four young occupants colliding with another car, attracting a number of onlookers.

A grey Mazda 3 allegedly collided with another car before crashing into a traffic light on the corner of High Street and Gloucester Avenue at about 10.50am on Tuesday 9 April.

The teens inside the vehicle fled the scene on foot.

Police swiftly arrested a 14-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy and two 14-year-old girls with the assistance of the public

The teenagers were assisting police with their enquiries.

Police have alleged the Mazda was stolen from a business on Princes Highway in Narre Warren just before 1.15am on Tuesday 9 April.

Three CFA units responded from Beaconsfield, Berwick and Nar Nar Goon.

The incident was deemed under control at 11:12am.

A witness, who was one of the first people on the scene and provided support to those involved in the collision, described the aftermath of the crash as “traumatic“.

“I heard the screech and I stood up and I saw the car,“ they said.

“Someone is going to get cleaned up there one day.“

Another bystander described the incident as “pretty scary“.
