THIS week in a bumper edition of the Gazette, sports editor David Nagel goes through his now annual ‘Top 25’ – a list of the 25 footballers in the South East Football Netball League who are set to have the biggest impact in 2016. It’s more than two pages of analysis that is sure to spark plenty of debate in pubs, clubs, and living rooms across the south east.

David also dissects the highly entertaining clash from Saturday night between two of the SEFNL’s biggest improvers – Pakenham and Tooradin – and discusses just what made Aaron Creasey’s effort going back with the flight of the ball so significant in the scheme of the Lions’ season. The reviews and previews of senior footy and netball from across the SEFNL also take their usual place, as does a whopping two pages of Footy Shorts.

In the back of the liftout, Russell Bennett runs an eye over Nar Nar Goon’s win in its first netball and football clashes back at its Spencer Street base in well over a year; and discusses just what makes Cora Lynn and Neerim Neerim South the early frontrunners for the EDFL senior flag. Buln Buln’s strong start to the A Grade netball season also features on the EDNA page.

Jarrod Potter has all the action from the elite teams – both the men’s and women’s VFL footy – while in sport he has the story of Berwick shooting star Laetisha Scanlan, who will don the Australian colours in her first Olympic Games in Rio.

Also in sport, David has the story of a significant announcement at the Pakenham Racing Club, and Russell speaks with Pakenham Cricket Club star Chris Smith after his big win at the West Gippsland Cricket Association’s night of nights, and photographer Stewart Chambers has a selection of photos from the night.

And we’re not done yet – Jarrod has a story on Australia’s first Olympic Games gold medallist, Berwick’s Edwin Flack, and we have all the latest on the Pakenham senior gridiron, basketball, and soccer.

All of this for just $1.
