A huge round of applause must go to both Kooweerup and Pakenham for the spirit in which the Australia Day cricket at Toomuc Reserve was held on Friday. Immediately following day one of the WGCA Premier grade clash between the two great rivals, under-10 outfits from the two clubs – ‘Torney’s Terrors’ from Pakenham and ‘Davey’s Dynamos’ from Kooweerup – took to the field.
The two sides were full of names synonymous with the WGCA with Cooper Davey, son of Demons legend Matt, snaring season-best figures of 5/13 and Jack Torney, son of Mick, top-scoring with 14 for Pakenham and also finishing with 3/8 – including a brilliant hat-trick.
The Kooweerup players on the day included Lincon Tannahill (son of D Grade captain Daniel), Campbell and Jaxen Wood (son of treasurer Chris), Liam Pirotta (son of club legend Danny), Copper Davey, Brock Glasscock (son of club legend Mick, and grandson of John), and Lachlan Loveday while Pakenham’s side included Jack and Lily Sidebottom, Nathan Shelton, Daniel Ahern, Harry Motton, Jack Torney (son of dual first grade premiership player Mick), and Jake Webster (son of first grade premiership player and life member Scott). Keep a keen eye out for the likes of Harry and Daniel, as well as Josh Bloor, who will all be very competitive in the under-12s next season for the Lions.
