REVIEW – ROUND 10

DISTRICT

Cranbourne Meadows’ perfect season continued in round 10, easily accounting for Tooradin at Lawson Poole Reserve after winning the toss and electing to bat.

The Rebels, led by great contributions from Sibghat Ullah (52), Kulith Rabel (46 not out), Pardeep Singh (42) and Rupinder Singh (38 not out), had the Seagulls on the back foot all innings and finished with a daunting total of 6/268.

Tooradin got strong middle-order contributions from David Freeman (37), Ned Harrison (33) and Daniel Quinn (27 not out), but their run rate was never going to be enough. At the conclusion of 40 overs, the Seagulls posted a total of 7/176.

NNG/Maryknoll solidified its second position on the ladder with a win over Cardinia at E Gunton Oval.

The Bulls chose to bat first and would immediately regret that decision, losing two wickets before getting off the mark. It was Dean Henwood (3/18) who did the damage early.

The middle-order of Ricky Campbell (33), Mark Andolfatto (31) and Adam Hobson (29) tried their best to recover the innings for the Bulls, but they could only muster a total of 146 as Travis Gray (4/31) ran riot.

In reply, the Marygoons paced their run chase and despite losing early wickets, were in control for most of the innings. An unbeaten half century from Scott Hayes (64 not out) highlighted the innings as NNG/Maryknoll recorded a total of 6/148 in 32 overs.

A Mitchell Copey masterclass led Emerald to a big win over Clyde. The Bomber opener was simply dominant as he smashed his way to 108 off 107 balls, including 16 4s and one 6. Copey combined with Mark Alenson (45) for a 116-run stand that helped the Bombers to a big total of 5/268.

Dean Williams (3/56) was the pick of the Cougars bowlers.

In reply, Clyde had batsmen get off to starts – led by Warwick Weir (45) and Zac Davis (32) – but it wasn’t enough as Sam Stapleton (3/31) and Ashley Hill (3/35) claimed key wickets to dismiss the Cougars for 177 in the 35th over.

A batting collapse from Carlisle Park saw Officer claim an easy win at home. The Vikings chose to bat first and lost their final seven wickets for just 38 runs to post a total of 97. Shaun Weir (3/12) and James Quinn (3/15) did plenty of damage.

The Bullants paced their run and did it easy as Ash Smith (41 not out) and Peter Quinn (28 not out) led them to a total of 2/98 in 30 overs.

SUB-DISTRICT

Catani sent a message to the rest of the WGCA Sub-District Division that they mean business, handing Pakenham Upper/Toomuc their first loss of the season.

The Yabbies won the toss at home and elected to bat, and incredibly they found themselves reeling at 3/1 as Tyler Molloy (2/18) claimed early wickets. The Cats didn’t let up and dismissed the Yabbies for just 99 runs in 33 overs. Dustin Peebles (4/23) continued his dominant form with another fine eight overs of bowling.
Just as he did last week, Peebles backed up his great bowl

ing with a sublime knock with the bat. His 47 runs led Catani to a win as they reached the target in the 29th over for the loss of seven wickets. Nicholas Kyval (4/13) did all he could for the Yabbies, but it wasn’t enough.

Lang Lang and Kooweerup played out an intense and high-quality game, which ultimately resulted in a win for the Tigers.

Kooweerup batted first and an unbeaten half century from Ayden Mills (56 not out) saved the Demons innings from disaster as he helped his team to a total of 8/170. Glen Easton (2/17) and Joseph Dalgleish (2/32) led the way for Lang Lang.

In reply, Lang Lang lost early wickets, but Chris Brew (42) and Rajind Dassanyake (39) steadied the innings. With just two wickets in hand and three deliveries to spare, the Tigers reached the required runs, posting a total of 8/172 to record a memorable win. Jai Lewis (2/19) was the pick of Kooweerup’s bowlers.

Merinda Park easily accounted for Pakenham in a result that keeps things extremely interesting in the run home towards finals. Reeling at 3/19, the Lions were unable to recover their innings, despite a spirited half century from Mitch Tielen (57), as they struggled their way to a total of 8/121. Thanuja Senerathna (3/22) was terrific for the Cobras.

Merinda Park was in cruise control in reply, running down the required runs in just 28 overs, for the loss of three wickets. Dylan Hand (35 not out) and Paul Wiles (33) led the way for the Cobras. The win sees the Cobras sit just six points outside of the top four.

Meanwhile, Nyora claimed their first win of the season in a thrilling win over Gembrook. The Brookers batted first and put on a total of 6/208 to have the Maroons needing a strong innings to claim their maiden win.

Nyora got straight to work and Jake Hackett starred in a brilliant innings that saw him take control of the game. He produced an impressive unbeaten ton, smashing 15 4s on his way to 126 runs. Gavin Hackett (57) also played superbly alongside Jake to keep the strike rotating.
