An elected Labor Government will commit up to $500,000 for upgrades to a joint use community function room at Officer Recreation Reserve.

This facility, which is on Starling Road in Officer, will be used by the Officer Football Club, ROC Netball Club, Officer Cricket Club, Officer Tennis Club and the Beaconsfield Officer Scouts group, as well as the Country Women’s Association.

The user groups – part of the Officer Recreation Reserve – are currently operating out of facilities that were built in the 1970’s and 80’s, and have been pushing for urgent attention, such is the growth of the area and the sporting clubs that use the facility.

Officer Football Club president Nick McLennan thanked Labor candidate for La Trobe, Simon Curtis for his tireless work and passion for local sport.

“Simon has been a strong advocate for local sport dating back to his time at president of the Berwick Football Club and we thank him for supporting these much needed upgrades to our facilities,” he said.

“This announcement will be of great benefit to all the user groups at the Officer Recreation Reserve and means that the future of the recreation reserve and its user groups are now secure.

“This funding will help bring the club up to standard, with new social rooms and facilities for all the user groups at the reserve.

“This is a real win for the community.”
