REVIEW – ROUND 10

PREMIER

What a win in the context of the season for Cranbourne.

The Eagles pulled off a tremendous upset victory at Holm Park against the highly-rated Beaconsfield side in horrendous conditions, 33-23.

And as a result of the win, place pressure on Beaconsfield in second spot ahead of a crucial patch of netball in the second half of the season.

It was all square 6-6 at quarter time, but the visitors got the break with a 7-4 second term, and surged ahead with a 20-13 second half, winning by 10 goals in a brilliant effort.

It was a terrific all-round effort from the Eagles, but Tara Cecil was tremendous in defense, while Tiana Butler was a wall in combination with Cecil.

For the home side, who will need to bounce back on Saturday, Teneille Morrell, Zoe Mason and Danielle Cameron battled hard.

Wandin, meanwhile, snared a vital win in its finals hopes against Berwick away from home, 39-28.

The Dogs led for most of the day, with Cassidy Iedema in vintage touch with 28 goals, while Tash Sinclair was simply superb all day.

For the Wickers, Emma Clarke, Olivia Macente and Finlay McMillan battled valiantly.

In the remaining matches, the dominant Olinda Ferny Creek knocked off a gallant Narre Warren at Kalora Park, 59-33, while Upwey Tecoma was too strong for Healesville, 49-35.

DIVISION 1

ROC continues to knock off every challenge in its wake, this time against great rivals, Pakenham, in a dominant 40-23 victory at Starling Road.

The undefeated Kangaroos were never really challenged by Karen Meredith’s side, hopping out to 8-4 quarter time lead, never looking back as they continued to play some dominant netball.

It was another class display all across the court for the top-of-the-table side, but Emily McInnes, Zoe Callanan and Emily Boribon were particularly eye-catching.

The Lions – as they have all season – showed some fight and never gave in, with Rebecca Langford, Caitlin Cooke and Joanna Anastasoglou all in the best.

Doveton also did enough to claim another win, and cement themselves into fourth spot in the table against Warburton Millgrove, 38-26.

The Doves held sway for most of the afternoon on its home court, with Itagia Amataga (21 goals) and Emily Pupuke (17) in dominant form.

In the remaining matches in what is shaping to be an intriguing Division 1 A Grade season – with each match seemingly as important as the next – Mount Evelyn brushed aside Monbulk in a 36-28 win away from home, while Belgrave had too much clash for Emerald, 47-33.

With crunch time looming for many sides, all teams bar Emerald are well and truly in the race for finals, with seventh-placed Belgrave just one game behind Monbulk in fifth ahead of a massive month.
