ELLINBANK DISTRICT FOOTBALL LEAGUE

REVIEW – FINALS WEEK 2

It seems as though the final term against Poowong from Longwarry last week had the momentum-changing capacity Crows coach Daniel Fry suggested for both Longwarry and Poowong.

Longwarry continued its rampaging run as it dismantled minor premier Ellinbank, 13.10 (88) to 7.8 (50) in a barnstorming display on the weekend.

This time around, the Crows won every term but the damage was done at the beginning of the game.

Keeping the Eagles goalless in the opening term and to one major to half-time, the Crows were on top but unable to put Ellinbank away despite their dominance, until the third term where the Crows belted home five majors to skip out to a match defining lead.

Kane Oldham and Nathan Fry, two players coach Fry “put the acid on” last week at three-quarter time for not winning the ball at the source, were named best afield in the incredible victory for the club.

Meanwhile, Poowong have gone out of the finals race in straight sets – going down to Neerim Neerim South, 9.16 (70) to 8.8 (56).

The Pies held a lead at the main break before the Cats kicked seven to four second-half majors that ultimately booked them a spot in the preliminary final.

Tom Wyatt was best afield for the Pies while Calum Shiels was the best for the Cats.

The Crows, with a mountain of momentum, will have to wait a fortnight as they have earned a week off, while Ellinbank will take on Neerim Neerim South in the preliminary final at Darnum this weekend.
