Four fresh faces of the future

West Gippsland Cricket Association (WGCA) President Rob Hansen has welcomed with open arms the introduction of four fresh faces to the association’s Senior Cricket Committee (SCC).

Current players Jack Anning (Pakenham), Ben Parrott (Tooradin), Jamie Smith (Merinda Park) and Bradey Welsh (Cardinia) will play important roles in determining the immediate and future direction of senior cricket in the WGCA – and in varying aspects of the game.

The SCC will meet throughout the year to discuss and review important topics such as:

• Budgets and Sponsorship

• Senior Competition – including finals

• Representative Cricket

• Disputes, Grievances and Incidents and Disciplinary Actions

• Rules and By-Law Review

• Strategic Plan Objectives

• Senior Presentation

Hansen said it was exciting to see the next generation of potential leaders begin to emerge from the pack.

“It’s great to have these younger guys, that are serious thinkers about cricket, involved in the Senior Cricket Committee and having some vital input into the future direction of the WGCA,” Hansen said.

“All sports are facing some obvious challenges at the moment and it’s fantastic that these younger people have put their hands up, are showing leadership, and are keen to make a difference to their sport.”

The SCC has been a key pillar of the WGCA’s Constitution for many years, but has not operated to its full capacity due to a number of factors.

Pakenham President Phil Anning took on a similar role, and did a great job for the WGCA, in a representative-cricket capacity a few years back, while Pakenham player Rob Elston and Devon Meadows President Michael Floyd were involved in the SCC last year.

But with four new faces on board, providing the ability to share the load, Hansen believes the newest instalment of the SCC can really make a difference to the sport.

The current big-ticket items facing the SCC are a change of grading system for senior cricket in the WGCA, and the sustainable future of representative cricket.

Hansen, Fixtures Coordinator Nicky Simpson, and the four-strong SCC met last night, Tuesday, 17 August, to discuss potential grading options moving forward.
