Cranbourne smiling but a little rusty

At last bowls is back and a new season is up and running for Cranbourne Bowling Club.

That is the good news – the bad news is that Cranbourne started with three losses and one win in round one.

Club President Tony Collins, although not pleased with some of the team results was just happy to see club members back at the club enjoying bowls and joining in the club activities and having a laugh after a long time in home isolation.

Captain Jay Tootell addressed the players at the start of the game asking them for a big effort playing at the fantastic new indoor bowls stadium at Narre Warren.

The green was running very well and the home team handled the faster green conditions much better than Cranbourne enabling them to take advantage of an early break that Cranbourne could not drag back.

Cranbourne ended the day with two rinks up and two rinks down and a final deficit of 25 shots.

Experienced skip Neil Drummond handled the conditions very well winning by six shots with support from his team mates, Nick Arnold, Jim Williams and Joe Byrne.

Cranbourne had the pleasure of playing in winter-like conditions at home against Clayton and in a thrilling encounter came up short by four shots.

The rink of the day went to Skip Chris Griffiths and his crew of Fritz Helle, Matt Stevens and Dany Meyers who had an outstanding day winning by a massive 24 shots.

Hampton Park had the better of Cranbourne despite a tough fighting effort from Skip Lois Brock and her crew of Derek Maguire, Andrew Brock and Bob Pyne who won by two shots.

At last some joy for Cranbourne with a big win against Mordialloc by 30 shots.

Skip Rob Sorensen had a great day winning by 13 shots thanks to the good form of his team: – Scott De Piazza, Neil Fotheringham and Sandra Mueller.

Scores: Cranbourne 72 (16 points) defeated Mordialloc 42 (0 points)

Mid-week bowls starts Tuesday with one team entered in Division 2, two teams competing in Division 3 and one team competing in Division 4.
