GARFIELD GOLF

After receiving over a month’s worth of rainfall last week – Friday through Monday – one could expect to be playing in extremely heavy conditions shortly thereafter.

However when I ventured out for my weekly round on Thursday I was more than surprised just how well the course had drained, where except for a dozen or so low lying areas the course was in extremely good nick.

No need for preferred lies or the like.

Shane Male made it a year to remember as he confirmed his odds on favouritism by adding the Medal of Medallists to his club champion title with a net score of 68 playing off his mark of three.

Males score was also the best A Grade round for the day’s medal event to go with the best handicap round as well.

Steve Humphrys took out the November Monthly Medal with a fine round of net 66, playing off his mark of 14, to defeat Graham White by the one shot.

Ray James, Craig Metcalf and the aforementioned Male all had net 68’s to finish in the money.

Thursday saw a field of 53 take part in the days event with an inform player in Greg Needham winning the A Grade event with a score of37 points playing off his mark of 14.

He defeated another in-form player in Ray Pund and the proverbial place getter in John Blair by one point.

Des Kerr got the B Grade decision with a round of 37 points to defeat Clinton Smith via a countback result.

Robert Mirfin tasted success for the C Grade lot with a score of 36 points to defeat Geoff Clingin and Don Towan, whom both came in with scores of 35 points. A final score of 32 points or better was needed to get a ball down the line. No nearest the pins were recorded for the day.

Whilst on Saturday a score of 71 or better was needed to get a ball down the line. Twilight golf has returned to Thursday evenings for all those whom wish to participate.
