GARFIELD GOLF

It was pretty much a dry week on the radar with just a few overnight showers prevailing towards the end of the week.

Ray Pund is Garfield’s golfer of high achievement for the month of November by scoring two second place results, one third place finish, a down the line, and to top that off he won Monday’s event with a brilliant round of 41 points playing off his mark of just nine.

Ray actually played the course to a handicap of just four…that’s very good golf indeed sir.

The week’s major event was the annual Barnes Fallon Mixed Canadian event played on Saturday which was contested by a field of 10 pairs.

Matt and Karli Van Der Horst teamed up to win the handicap event with a score of 70.625 whilst Grant and Amanda McLure tasted success for the second year running for the scratch event with a great round of 76.75.

A final score of 72.25 was needed to get a ball down the line.

Karli Van Der Horst also had a great week by scoring the runners up prize on Monday with a round of 35 points as well as winning Sunday’s event.

For everyone else not engaged in the mixed event it was a game of single stableford with a field of 95 presenting.

Trevor Male had a great day out by winning the A Grade event with a score of 40 points playing off his mark of nine to defeat Grant McKay by one point.

Evan Williams got the B Grade decision with a handicap round of 36 points playing off his handicap of 15 to defeat Peter King and Peter Bogart by just one point.

Kelvin Rhodes won the C Grade event with a good score of 38 points playing off his mark of 21 to defeat Allan Milkins on a count back. A final score of 33 points or better was required to win a ball down the line.

A field of 54 players came out for a round on Thursday with some excellent rounds returned as well as a birthday gent having a day out. James Grant had a brilliant round of 42 points to win the B Grade event playing off his mark of 19 to defeat Des Kerr and Charlie Barnes whom both had 40 points each.

Greg Noonan won the A Grade event with a round of 39 points playing off his mark of 18 to defeat Dave Williams and John Blair whom both had the 38 points each. Blair now nearing full-time retirement is really playing outstanding consistent golf by finishing in the money every start for the month and keeps on compiling better than handicap results.

Rob Morris broke a long run of outs by winning the C Grade event on a count back from Peter Lazarus with a great round of 40 points. Lazarus was celebrating his 74th birthday right on the day so congratulations on your result.

Kevan McMillan, one of our usually consistent ball strikers, had a very interesting day indeed. Scoring just the 10 points on the front nine he then came home with 22 points for the back nine which equates to a one over score of 36 off the stick.

A final score of 37 points or better was needed to win a ball down the line.

The Gippsland Veterans played at Moe on Monday 22 November and it was attended by a field of 85 players with the course in excellent condition – but the rough caused a lot of searching if one got in it.

Five Garfield players took part and the best was a turncoat that has moved down the road, Richard Gould with a good score of 37 points.

Next and final event of the year is at Drouin where the annual Christmas lunch will take place at the completion of play and is scheduled for play on December 6.

The cost is $30 for a 9.00am shot gun start. For all enquiries regarding entry please ring John Scale before December 2.
