Tyler’s Top Ten

In this edition of Tyler’s Top Ten, GAZETTE reporter TYLER LEWIS takes a look at the ten best cricket photographs taken by our star photographers – ‘rockin Rob’ and ‘sensational Stew’.

10. The great Bill Lawry used to yell ‘OUT IF HE HITS? GONE, GOT HIM’, whenever someone took on Ricky Ponting’s arm. At the Gazette believe that was yelled internally in this picture from STEW CHAMBERS of Dean Henwood’s run out..

9. ROB CAREW is a bit of a Vic Premier Cricket specialist, captures the moments. In this instance he caught what every Aussie loves about quickie James Pattinson: his passion.

8. STEW CHAMBERS is simply still dominating around the grounds, this beauty was taken only last week in the MPCA!

7. Another brilliant flick from ROB CAREW, the foreground and the background shows the story here. Josh Shaw is digging in; breathing heavy, but it wasn’t enough to please the leaders in the grippers behind him.

6. At the GAZETTE, our photographer’s channel the likes of Andrew McLeod, Dustin Martin, and Luke Hodge – they just perform on the big stage. How about this flick from STEW CHAMBERS on WGCA grand final day back in 2017?

5. Not many better things for a photographer than a big celebrator. ROB CAREW got one of the better celebrations when DJ Watson took a big wicket in the DDCA.

4. Jess Mathers’ folklore defining spell in 2018 has featured in this Top Ten a few times, but it’s the photo that goes with the story that gets him on the list again. There’s something about STEW CHAMBERS and his lens, he attracts once-in-a-lifetime bowling spells – feel free to contact him if you’re a bowler and feel like taking eight or nine scalps.

3. Unfortunate to come third, but a worthy podium finish. As Ian Smith said in the 2019 World Cup final, ‘Agony for New Zealand, ecstasy for England’, this image has all of that and more. One of ROB CAREW’S finest.

2. Coming in second – and we mean deathly close – is this beauty from STEW CHAMBERS. You just had to be there to watch James Nanopoulos take 8fa, his first five without a run and then a hat-trick as well… lucky for us, sensational Stew was!

1. After hours of deliberation, aperture analysis, shutter-speed study and focal point examination, we have nailed the best of the best. Second is stiff, but this photo from ROB CAREW is top tier.
