PAKENHAM PUMAS BASEBALL
DIV 3 FIRSTS
Pakenham v Bonbeach – 1-11 loss
DIV 3 SECONDS
Pakenham v Bonbeach – 2-8 loss
DIV 4 SOUTH WHITE THIRDS
Pakenham v Bonbeach – 14-7 win
Pakenham White took on top-placed Bonbeach at Bonbeach this week.
Daniel Hussein got our account open with a lead-off double brought in by a shot through first base by Dylan Eldridge, but three successive outs had us retired and into the field.
Brad Jones was sent to the mound after a full game pitching effort last week and a bit of sloppy fielding in the infield saw two runs to Bonbeach.
It could have been worse with bases loaded with runners, but the Pumas headed back into bat with a one-run deficit. Jones walked and stole his way around to score when Gavin Standl hit one through short stop. The game now tied with the Blue Jays back into bat. Ground balls to Daniel at short, and two successive plays to Dylan at second, saw the inning closed out with runners stranded and no additional score.
Dylan then hit a shot to left field and was brought in by a home run to Luke Billing, again to left, to take the lead. Brad then hit a double to centre-field and was brought in when Tim Stockdale threaded a shot between first and second baseman to add a three run lead. Grounders to Daniel at shortstop and another back to Brad on the mound saw two outs with two on base before Gav took a great running catch in the deep to end the inning without score.
Liam Hough got his second single through the left side, Daniel followed suit doing the same. Dylan was hit by the pitch to load the bases, and Luke hit another double to centre-field to bring in two.
A ground ball from Jason Rossit brought another run in. Brad then went deep to left to score the fourth for the inning, before being brought in by another hit to Tim.
An eight-run lead to the Pumas.
Two runs were added by the Blue Jays, with some costly infield errors and a thumping shot to centre-field getting over the fielder’s heads. But a hit straight at Tim at first base was blocked and the inning ended with four runs added to the total.
Four runs up but feeling a little momentum swing, the Pumas set about making sure they added runs back to the total to keep the game out of reach. Dylan Collier then picked a walk on a full count but with back to back outs, it looked like we might have just enough time to get two more innings in.
Luke then battled to an eight-pitch single to left to score Dylan. Jason was hit by a pitch and the boys pulled of an unsuspecting double steal and were both rewarded with back to back wild pitches to score.
Brad then walked and when Tim Stockdale somehow bounced a ball around the first baseman the speedy Brad made it the whole way home to score the fourth run of the innings and undo all of the Blue Jays good work that inning.
Back into the field, with not enough time to bat twice, the momentum was all Puma. A strike out to start the defensive inning, followed by a hit. Dylan Collier took a catch at right field and Gav ended the game with a running catch up the middle.
Pumas 14-7 winners.
A great team effort to get the win over the top team sees us one game behind them on the ladder, everyone chipping in on the day to keep our score ticking over.
DIV 4 SOUTH BLACK FOURTHS
Pakenham v Bonbeach Blue – 3-21 loss
Pakenham Black took on Bonbeach Blue this week, we started the game off with a bang scoring two runs with Bernie, Andrew and Matthew getting soil hits and despite a solid pitching outing from Jamie Coloma throwing.
We ran into a powerhouse defensive and offensive team keeping us scoreless in the next three digs to give them the W…21-3.
There where aspects of the game we did well, with great fielding from youngest player in Jacob Batson, also Greg and Bernie held their spot in the field well.

JUNIOR LEAGUE
Pakenham v Cheltenham/Bonbeach
Junior league came out strong in a tight game against Cheltenham/Bonbeach. The kids controlled the game until the last innings where some untidy errors gave them the runs to get over the line, one of the best games played by the kids this season.
LITTLE LEAGUE MINOR
Pakenham v Springvale – 1-10 loss
Little League Pakenham took on a very inform Springvale team. Pakenham scoring one run in the first innings was a good start to our lead off batters but that’s all we could managed for the rest of the game. Springvale’s well drilled offence and defence took the win 1-10. Highlight of the game was Eli’s double play taking a catch at first base and getting the advancing runner out.
