A Pretty picture at Garfield

GARFIELD GOLF

Garfield has often been described as a pretty golf course – and that was exactly the case on Saturday with Graeme Pretty producing a fantastic round of golf to win the A Grade stableford competition with 40 points.

A total of 87 players crunched one off the first tee, with Pretty and B Grade winner Peter Johnson signing off on the best rounds of the day.

Pretty had a two-shot margin over Stephen Murray and Peter Glasscock in A Grade, while Johnson also scored 40 points to win by two shots over Martin Spurway in B Grade.

The C Grade competition was extremely hard fought, with Michael Anthony scoring 37 points to claim a countback win over Michael Carrigan and Harry Huyskens.

Jillian Gay was the big winner in the ladies competition, winning the day with 33 points and also claiming two nearest to the pins!

Raymond Phillips scored 40 points to win Monday’s A Grade competition.

Tuesday

The Ladies Summer Cup was played on Tuesday with Karli Van Der Horst continuing her impressive recent run of form, scoring 37 points to take out the day’s top prize.

Thursday

Peter Johnson kick-started a very impressive week of golf by scoring 38 points to be the best of the 44 players to take to the course for Thursday’s Stableford competition.

Just two days later, Johnson would score 40 points to Saturday’s B Grade event!

Well done to Peter who was a star footballer for Pakenham who played in multiple senior premierships.

The Mirboo North Challenge was played this week with Garfield just falling short in a very even competition…Mirboo North (32.3) defeated Garfield (29.6).

The David Bull Open Mixed American event was also held this week with Peter Kane and Jeanette Mitchell shooting the best scratch round of 82.

Steve and Yvonne Smith won A Grade and are now proud owners of the shield, while Tom Traill and Mary Beruldsen won B Grade and the best visitors were Richard Snare and Fran Renahan.
