Cranbourne joins the ‘Barty Party’

Coach Lyn Quigg inspired his team to victory on Saturday.

CRANBOURNE BOWLS

After losing the last two games head coach Lyn Quigg addressed his players before the game and drew on inspiration and winning form from tennis star Ash Barty.

“Today we are changing our surname to Barty. If we can play with her determination and professionalism I have no doubt we can knock off ladder leaders Dandenong Club today and win”

The result…Cranbourne defeated Dandenong Club by 19 shots and won on all four rinks picking up a maximum 18 points. (Thanks Ash).

In mid-week bowls the weather was heating up but Cranbourne top side stayed cool and took all points against Cardinia Waters which keep them in the hunt for finals contention.

• Side 1 – Division 2 Sec 5

Cranbourne was full of enthusiasm and spirit and picked up all points against Dandenong Club. In fact Cranbourne is the only team to defeat them this year. (Now twice).

Skip Doug Boggie and his team of Danny Meyer, Stan Myers and Peter Elgar won by 14 shots. Skip Lyn Quigg won by three shots while Skip Jammie Corney won by one shot.

Last team on the green was skip Jay Tootell who was tied on the scoreboard with one bowl to come. All 16 Cranbourne bowlers were riding his backhand-draw bowl as it drew in for shot with Jay doing his special skip shuffle down the green with the cheer of his team mates. What a game and what a win.

Cranbourne 80 (18 points) defeated Dandenong Club 61 (0 points)

A one-shot loss against Edithvale was an absolute heartbreaker.

Standout rink was skip Roger Roscoe, Gary Farrington, Karen Hickson and Barry Graham who won by six shots.

Cranbourne 77 (2 points) lost to Edithvale 78 (16 points)

• Side 3 – Division 3 Sec 6

An 11 shot loss against Narre Warren was a little disappointing but at least a good fight was given by skip George Ljepojevic Brian Turton, Graeme Wood and Peter West who won by 9 shots.

Cranbourne 66 (3 points) lost to Narre Warren 77 (15 points)

• Side 4 – Division 6B Sec 6 (12 a side)

A huge win for Cranbourne by 42 shots. Skip Sofio Rati, Dermot McConville, Brian Legg and Steve Bakker won by 25 shots, while skip Rob Sorensen, Bob Bellamy, David McMaster and Scott De Piazza won by 27 shots.

Mid-Week Bowls

• Side 1 – Division 2 Sec 6

A win away from home was an excellent result with Cranbourne winning by 21 shots and picking up all 16 points. Skip Steve Hickson was in great form supported by his team of Gary Farrington, Barry Graham and Lynne Wood who won by nine shots, while Skip Lois Brock won by six shots and skip Chris Griffiths who also won by six shots.

Cranbourne 76 (16 points) defeated Cardinia Waters 55 (0 points)

A tough game against Cranbourne RSL going down by 19 shots.

Skip Tony Whalley. Derek Maguire, Kath Dudink and Sandra Mueller won by three shots.

Cranbourne 50 (2 points) lost to Cranbourne RSL 69 (14 points)

• Side 3 – Division 3 Sec 7

A big 42-shot win against Carrum and all 16 points was a good day away.

Skip Peter Colthup and his crew of Cheryl Wright, Brian Legg and Vic Buttera won by 22 shots with Skip Yvonne Van Der Wees winning by 14 shots and Skip John Gardner winning by six shots.

Cranbourne 86 (16 points) defeated Carrum 44 (0 points)

• Side 4 – Division 4 Sec 6

The weather was warming up after lunch but Cranbourne won by a massive 62 shots at home.

A huge win by skip Trevor Elsey, Olive Stanley, Ron Fenton and Frank Forsythe who won by 27 shots.

Rob Sorrensen won by 15 shots and Liz Hughes won by 20 shots.
