Great scores flowing at the Creek

The course was in mint condition and the weather was absolutely perfect at Deep Creek Golf Club on Saturday as players took part in a stableford event.

With the delayed 2021 Club Championships just around the corner, players are fine-tuning their games in preparation for the biggest event on the calendar.

A Grade winner Dean Jones (9) is certainly in good form, scoring 39 points to win by one from the super-consistent Harry Elyasie (4), who put his flash new driver to work with a fine score of 38 points.

John McDonald (21) won B Grade with 39 points from runner up Brett Nowlan (15) on 37 points.

But the biggest and best score on Saturday came from Lyriq Bester (30), who snared a whopping 47 points to win C Grade by 12 shots from Michael Banger (25) on 35 points.

Down the lines went to Nick Gray and Rob Nobelius 37, Roger Parker, Daniel Behnane, James Dimtsas, Murray O’Dwyer, Neville Taylor and Travis Wheeler 36, and to Jack Scarborough, Colin Crowle, John Hutcheon, Stephen Northcott, Steven Van Roy, Steve Morgan, Leon Mateariki, Tym Davey, Matthew Boon and Frank Leontini on 35 points.

Nearest the Pins: 2nd Hole: Jarrod Leontini (2.83m) and 16th Hole: John Piggott (0.92 m).

One of the lowest handicappers at the club, Ben Fitzpatrick (4), scored 36 points to win Monday’s stableford competition on a countback from the in-form Frankie Chiu (8).

Doug Barrot (36) won B Grade, with 38 points, from Alan Borch (24) on 37 points with down the lines going to Carol Beard, Graeme Steel, Levi Sua, David McMahon and Christopher James on 36 points, and to Ron Seamer, Tom McDermott, John Piggott, Stewart MacDonald, Phillip Mott, John Kingman and Jimmy Pari on 35 points. Nearest the pin on the 16th hole went to David McMahon (0.48m).

Long-time member Frankie Chiu (8) had a day to remember on Wednesday, scoring plus-6 in the Par event to win A Grade by a solitary shot from the unlucky Neville Taylor (19).

Pat Ellerton (22) went three steps better in B Grade, racking up plus-9 to win by four shots from Gordon Edwards (24) on plus-5.

Down the lines went to John Curtin and Murray O’Dwyer with 4up, Levi Sua 3up, and to Les Jones, Tom McDermott, Ron Seamer, Chris Kondarios, Andrew Hale and Geoff Percival on 2up.

The Supercomp Front-9 winner was Frankie Chiu with 5up and nearest the pins went to 2nd Hole: Neville Taylor (2.20m) and 16th Hole: David McMahon (2.50m).

The ladies of Deep Creek Golf Club put on a scoring feast on Thursday with Leah Barker (26) playing a great round of golf to score 44 points and win the day.

Leanne Barker (32) can count herself unlucky, scoring 43 points but only finishing runner up!

Down the lines went to Kay Jones with 40 points and to Carol Beard and Anne Donovan on 35 points.

Nearest the pins (second shot) went to 2nd Hole: Kay Jones (0.20m) and 16th Hole: Leah Barker (2.60m).

Leah Barker 80 points, Leanne Barker, Anne Donovan 77 and Kay Jones 73.

And a week of great scoring continued on Sunday with Kyle Herron (41) scoring 43points to finish two clear of Craig DeBono (30) on 41 points.

Down the lines went to Ray Hewitt, Matt Hogan, Brett Nowlan and Leon Mateariki – all with 39 points – and to Shaun Hegarty on 37.

This week the ladies will play the third round of the Summer Cup on Thursday, before players compete in a Par event on Saturday.
