Club Championships

The final round of the 2022 Men’s Club Championships were played at Drouin on Saturday.

With the leading two players, Ryan Hammond and Lachie Bambridge, tied after the first two rounds a thrilling contest was waiting.

It wasn’t long before Ryan shot out to a two-shot lead, birdieing four of the first five holes.

After nine holes Ryan held that two-shot lead, playing the front nine in five under par to Lachie’s three under. The back nine started similar to the front except that it was Lachie’s turn to go on a birdie run and by the 13th hole both players were equal on six-under.

The next two holes saw separation in the scores again with two bogeys to Lachie and a birdie to Ryan. Lachie rallied over the last three holes with three birdies, and a bogey on the last to Ryan left both players tied on seven-under for the day and on 206 each for the 54 holes.

A sudden death playoff was then needed to crown the winner.

Both players headed back to the first hole and were both on the green for two. Lachie was away first and missed his putt just outside the left edge.

Ryan was able to hole his putt and was crowned Club Champion for 2022 in what was probably one of the most enthralling rounds of golf played at Drouin.

The other results from the Championships saw Lachie Bambridge claim the Junior Championship and A Grade Handicap with 215.

Phil Adams made a clean sweep of B Grade with a scratch score of 247 and handicap of 214 but not to be done with yet, he also claimed the Senior Championship. C Grade Scratch was won by James Wagner on 276 and the handicap by Connor Jeffries on 223. The D Grade Scratch winner was David Axford on 292 while Rob Fredrickson won the handicap with 225.
