Cranbourne Turf Club (CTC) and Country Racing Victoria (CRV) have acknowledged the difficulty of the last couple of years for the community by creating an initiative to give thanks to essential workers and engender a sense of community amongst local clubs.
The CTC is offering free entry for essential workers to the Cranbourne Community Race Day on Friday 11 March as well as an opportunity for local clubs to get together and enjoy a night of relaxed racing and entertainment in their Community Clubs Marquee.
“We’ve all had a tough couple of years, but life would have been a lot tougher without the support of our essential workers and local club connections that are the very foundations of our community,” said Country Racing Victoria’s, Darren Galley.
“With this in mind, CRV and CTC wanted to make a big push to get the community together, especially after an opportunity was lost with the washout of Tricodes last month.”
CTC CEO Neil Bainbridge said the night would be a wonderful opportunity for the local community to come together as one to celebrate what’s great about the region.
“There’s no doubt a sense of belonging is critical to our mental health and this initiative is designed to acknowledge all that is great about our slice of Melbourne which is one of the most progressive, connected and culturally diverse in the state,” Mr Bainbridge said.
There will be a major prize to the value of $3,500 brand activation to the club with the most people through the Community Clubs marquee that are aligned with a particular club.
What’s more, representatives of Game Changer – a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to working towards suicide prevention with services directed to local sporting clubs and leagues – will be on hand to introduce the program to interested clubs.
All clubs need to be registered with the Turf Club prior to qualifying for the community clubs prize.
The Community Club Race Day will feature free entry for kids and free supervised kid’s activities by Kelly Sports throughout the night, along with live music on the deck.
It kicks off the club’s Autumn night racing season that will see a dozen Friday race meetings and quality fields assembled racing for greater prizemoney than ever before.
