GARFIELD GOLF

Yet another week without rain, resulting in very dry fairway conditions.

In-fact it’s been a month since we had any rain at all which is contributing to plenty of ball run and typical summer high scoring.

Saturday saw the playing of the 2022 Top Gun Final which saw a field of 19 tee it up – all commencing from the first tee.

Greg Macklin, playing well at the moment, came out on top to defeat Clinton Smith and Geoff Turner finishing in third place. For everyone else, a field of 88, it was a game of single stableford with Chase Hobson having the day’s best round with a C Grade score of 41 points to record a six-point win over Peter Lazarus.

Joe Tonso broke a long run of outs to win the A Grade event with a round of 40 points to defeat Peter Medwin by three points. Jackson Bennett did best for B Grade with a score of 39 points to get the win by just one point from Sepp Krummenacher.

A final score of 34 points or better was good enough to get a ball down the line.

On Thursday a field of 67 turned out with Rob Morris having a great time of it by winning the C Grade event with a score of 42 points to defeat Stephen Bird by four points. Ray Pund, whom has had a very good start to 2022, got the A Grade win with a round of 41 points playing off his mark of just seven to defeat Arti Koopman and Tim Sallai whom both had the 40 points.

Peter Fedorenko scored another win, this time with a B Grade result with a score of 40 points to defeat a red-hot Mick Howsin by the one point. Greg Macklin made it a week to remember finishing top of the heap for the rest with a score of 39 points.

A better than handicap score of 38 points was required to get a ball down the line.

Last Tuesday the veteran’s tour continued at Morwell with a game of single stableford.

There were six Garfield members that took part with the best being a new member, Bob Calderara with a score of just 30 points. As with most courses played so far, the course presented in tip-top condition, pretty tough but fair. A superb meal finished off the day.

The next event on the Vet’s calendar will be at Berwick-Montuna on Monday 7 March with the details soon to be posted on the club’s notice board. Entries to John Scale by the week’s end.

The clubs huge annual three-person mixed-ambrose date has now been announced and will take place on Saturday 26 March via a shot gun start at 8.45am.

With a total prize pool of over $3000 this event will be become yet another sell out. Entry forms are now available clearly displaying the conditions, and are at the club for your interest.

Next Saturday is the March Monthly Medal as well as the Captains Knock Out round one. The long weekend after will see the playing of the annual King Trophy which is played over the 27 holes as a foursome stroke event.
