DEEP CREEK GOLF CLUB

It was a tough day for scoring at Deep Creek Golf Club on Saturday with only a handful of players good enough to play to their handicaps.

Playing Par…A and B grade competitions were both decided via countback with Peter Reilly (10) scoring 1up to defeat the in-form Harry Elyasie (4) in A grade and Ross Stewart (18) scoring 2up to win the B grade prize from Neil Atchison (15).

Jake Arnott (28) finished square with the card to win C grade, with Leah Baker (23) one shot further back on one down.

Down the lines went to Andrew Hale 2up, Andrew Heagney, Jimmy Pari and Shane Franzi 1up, Nick Grey, Bryan Clydesdale, Anthony Franzi and Matthew Hogan square, Steven Van Roy, Marcus Cameron, Peter Dempster, Matthew Brown, Bob Naismith, Rod Walker, Royce Thompson, Alex Green, Colin Maclean, Jack Scarborough, Murray O’Dwyer and John Hutcheon one down.

Nearest the pins went to 2nd hole: Noel Boyd (1.80m) and 16th hole: Mick Boyd (2.80m).

Wednesday’s stableford competition was dominated by one golfer, Roger Parker (14), who scored a massive 45 points to win the A grade competition by four shots from Ron Seamer (15) on 41 points.

Terry Tisdale (21) also played a blinder in B grade, scoring 40 points to defeat Peter Dempster (21) on 38 points.

Down the lines went to David McMahon 39, Stephen Northcott 38, Robert Edwards, James Dimtsas 37, Anthony Kemsley, Phillip Tunstall, Bajan Sangah, Peter Mackie, Ron Parsons, David Calderbank, Tony Sheahan 36, and Phillip Mott 35.

Supercomp Back-9 winner was Parker (14) with 24 points while nearest the pins went to 2nd hole: Phillip Mott (1.07m) and 16th hole: David Calderbank (1.50m).

An Ambrose competition was played on Monday with Bill McDonald, Pat Ellerton, Jimmy Pari and Alan Borch (9.875) scoring 57.125 nett to take out the top prize.

Runners-up were Ron Parsons, Nick Hill, John Piggott and Doug Barrot (13.25) with 58.75 nett while down the lines went to James Dimtsas, Chris Kondarios, David Saint and Warren Arnott on 59 nett and to Gordon Edwards, Stephen Northcott, Rob Nobelius and Michael Banger with 59.25 nett.

Nearest the pins went to 2nd hole: David Saint (1.03m) and 16th hole: Stewart MacDonald (4.00m).

Some great golf was played by the ladies on Thursday with Carol Beard (26) continuing her good recent form to score 39 points to win by one shot from Leah Barker (23).

Down the lines went to Kay Jones and Shirley McGrath with 35 points while nearest the pins (second shot) went to 2nd hole: Shirley McGrath (1.18m) and 16th hole: Leah Barker (0.10m).

The Summer Cup winner was Leah Barker with 82 points with honourable mentions going to Leanne Barker 78, Anne Donovan 77, Kay Jones 75 and Carol Beard 74.

And Sunday’s stableford competition came down to a countback after eventual winner Brian Bateup (22) and Glenn Rees (10) were locked on 37 points at the end of the days play.

Down the lines went to Tony Gray 36, Christopher Pitts 35 and Matthew Hogan 34.
