DEEP CREEK GOLF CLUB

Long-standing Deep Creek Golf Club President Rob Nobelius lived out every golfer’s dream last week after scoring his first-ever hole in one.

Nobelius struck a perfectly hit nine iron just to the right of the hole and watched it spin left and disappear out of sight.

A tireless worker for the club, Nobelius is one of the main reasons why the club is where it is today, with his effort and assistance keeping the club going through some very challenging times.

Congratulations Rob from all members at the Deep Creek Golf Club.

It was a mixed week at Deep Creek with heavy rains leaving the course unplayable for Saturday’s competition, but some great golf being played both and after the rains hit.

Last Monday, the day of Nobelius’s hole in one, saw Levi Sua (10) win the A Grade Par event with a great score of 3up, winning via a countback from runner-up Noel Bonne (11).

The best scores for the day went to B Grade combatants Warwick Cakebread (28) and Stewart Mac Donald (23), with Cakebread surviving a countback to win with the terrific score of 4up.

Down the lines went to Doug Barrot, Nobelius and Warren Arnott 2up and to Pat Ellerton, John Piggott, Kel Trickey, Chris Dalton and Glenn Charles with 1up.

Nearest the pins: 2nd hole: Christopher James (0.85m), 16th hole: Rob Nobelius (Hole in One).

The close finishes continued on Wednesday with both A and B Grade decided via countbacks.

Noel Boyd (14) scored 37 points to win A Grade from Neville Taylor (17), while Rod Walker (21) played magnificently to defeat an equally brilliant Andrew Hale (19) after both players returned 42 points.

Down the lines went to Rod Beard 37, John Roberts and James Dimtsas 36 and to John Kingman, Barry Williams, Chris Kondarios, Chris Dalton and visitor Andrew Liebe with 35 points.
