The AFL season is upon us, which means local footy can’t be far away.

That means some footy content in Tyler’s Top 10 this week, and what better place to start than the best individual games by one of the greatest goal-kickers this region has ever seen.

Yep, you guessed it; this is Marc Holt’s best 10 games, well what we can remember anyway…

10. 2011 v Narre Warren (GF): It might not be the biggest haul of his career, but the star will cherish this one more than most, his only premiership medallion. In assistance of ranking this list Sports Editor Dave Nagel said “Has to be 10th, he only kicked five”. When ‘only’ kicking five in the big dance is reason for being 10th, you can hold your head high, Holty.

9. 2012 v Hampton Park: The Eagles – and Holty – did as he pleased this day, booting a staggering 14 majors. The Eagles kicked 35 goals in a driving win. Again… this is coming in at nine.

8. 2012 v ROC: Booting 14 is one thing, but booting 14 of 25 is another. The spearhead defeated the Roos on his own by seven goals. His largest haul is still to come, but Holty was all over ROC this day, sometimes 18 men on the field just isn’t enough.

7. 2012 v Tooradin (PF): The best players step up on the big day, and the prelim final in 2012 was no exception for Marc Holt. The goal-kicking machine single-handily steered his side into another grand final with 11 goals.

6. 2012 v Narre Warren (GF): A game that was noticeably missing from one of the Top 10’s only weeks ago, often regarded as the greatest grand final ever. After a slog in the qualifier, a goal-fest of a grand final was the perfect stage for Holt. He kicked eight in the game that included 40 goals between the two sides, he simply couldn’t have done more.

5. 2014 v Bellarine (Interleague): Interleague features in this, as the wider audience was gifted with the show of Holt as well as the locals. At – then – Simmonds Stadium in Geelong, Holty booted eight to back up the year before…

4. 2013 v Hampton Park: 16 goals for the big man this day, not even close to his largest haul, but another casual day at the office for Holty.

3. 2013 v Wimmera (Interleague): The first of a succession of field days for Holty in the old interleague competition. He kicked eight in Horsham and had the locals asking each other ‘who is this bloke?’.

2. 2014 v Narre Warren (PF): The story of this game never stops giving. The Pies were seven goals up late in the third before Holty dragged Cranbourne to a heart-stopping victory. He finished with eight majors, a million marks and one almighty story to tell.

1. 2012 v Hampton Park: It couldn’t be any other game, could it? 22 majors from a team wins 90 per cent of matches, let alone from one man. Eight in the first, three in the second (lift Holty), four in the third and seven in the fourth, not even the iceberg that downed the Titanic would’ve stopped him that day!
