Kooweerup Cricket Club will have to make more space in its already bulging trophy cabinet after claiming the WGCA A Grade silverware.

The club is never short of premiership success, but after departing the District competition, this A Grade title will be extremely sweet between the four walls of Kooweerup Recreation Reserve.

The Demons did so in earnest fashion, with a crushing seven wicket win over Tooradin.

Kooweerup bowled out the Gulls inside the 38th over, with Joel Anderson (3/19 off six) and Bailey Perry (3/20 off 6.4) doing the brunt of the work.

After being 3/17, the Gulls scrambled to 125 courtesy of 39 from number six Liam Simpson.

The Demons were stupendous in the field, with seven players taking a catch or being involved in a run out.

The Demons had very little trepidation in pursuit of the low total, as glove-man Stephen Johnson collected his third half-century of the summer.

Tghe Kooweerup stalwarts’ unbeaten 78 came from just 94 balls and included nine fours and four cloud-reaching sixes.

It was a bit of a one man show for the Demons, as the next highest score behind Johnson was a pair of 14’s from Brannon Harrison and Robert Maskiell.

The Demons passed the low total in the 26th over with seven wickets to spare.

Kooweerup’s position in the WGCA competition next year will be one of the movements to watch in the off-season, as its finish to the 2021/22 summer suggests its strength lies higher.
