Golfers enjoyed the unusual sensation of sunshine hitting their shoulders at Deep Creek Golf Club on Saturday as a strong field teed off for a stableford competition.

One player who has been in outstanding form of late is Nick Gray (6), who once again showed his class with a brilliant round of 74 off the stick – two over par – to sign off with 40 points and a commanding four-shot win in A Grade.

Runner up in A Grade was Suzanne Van Strien (9), who played to her handicap to score 36 points.

Former Fitzroy footballer Neville Taylor (18) took top honours in B Grade, with the sweet-swinging lefty scoring 37 points to win by a comfortable three shots over Michael Banger (27) on 34 points.

Down the lines went to Matt Lloyd and David Mair on 36 points, Delanie Lewis, David Leek and Peter Reilly with 34 points, Dean Jones, Barry Williams, Roger Parker, Kelsey Davies, Mark Stewart, Bob Naismith and David Bell with 33 points, and Graeme Steel, Craig Clissold, Mark Hatton, Duncan Campbell, Scott Irwin, Murray O’Dwyer, Ross Maclean and Brenton Hollingworth with 32 points.

Nearest the pin’s went to 2nd Hole: Anthony Franzi (3.90m) and 16th Hole: Stephen Northcott (0.54m).

A quality field turned out for the Queen’s Birthday stableford event last Monday with Harry Elyasie (4) playing some beautiful golf to win with a score of 38 points.

Runner-up Graeme Durran (18) was one shot further back on 37 while down the lines went to Heath Barclay with 36 points, Bobby Edwards and Steely Mateariki 34, Stewart MacDonald 33, Dean Jones, Noel Boyd and Steven Van Roy 32 and to Les Jones, Leon Mateariki, Nick Gray and Gordon Edwards with 31 points.

Nearest the pins went to 2nd Hole: Bobby Edwards (0.80m) and 16th Hole: Stephen Northcott (4m).

Only two players bettered their handicaps in Wednesday’s Par competition with Tony Sheahan (14) finishing with +1 to win A Grade, one shot clear of Barry Williams (17) who finished square with the card.

Graeme Steel (29) had the best round of the day, +3, to win B Grade by four shots over Neville Taylor (18) on -1.

Down the lines went to Rex Ryan, Roger Parker and Tom McDermott on -1 and to Noel Boyd, Tony Penney and Glenn Charles with -2.

The Supercomp Front 9 winner was Tony Sheahan with +2, winning via a countback, while nearest the pins went to; 2nd Hole: Graeme Steel (2.80m) and 16th Hole: Tony Penney (1.12m).

The ladies came out to play on Thursday with Kay Jones (28) taking top honours and nearest the pins going to Leah Barker on both the second (.60m) and 16th holes (4.20m).

And the golfing week rounded out with a Sunday stableford competition that saw Tim Naylor (16) score 36 points to win on a countback from Shaun Hegarty (20).

Down the lines went to Harry Elyasie with 35 points and Leon Mateariki with 33 points.
