Catani has hit rock bottom and sunk a little deeper this week after the Blues suffered a demoralising 176-point pounding at the hands of Neerim South at Catani.

The Blues could only manage two goals to Neerim’s 28 in what could only be described as a dismantling of the opposition.

Fortunately for Catani, the Cats kicked 22 behinds to keep the Blues woes to a minimum.

Catani’s Lucas Kallady and Brett Williams were the only two to hit the main target between the big sticks.

Neerim’s Lachlan Bambridge kicking seven goals in his sides win.

It’s hard to think that 176 points wouldn’t be the largest defeat of the round, but the unevenness of the competition has thrown up another bashing with Buln Buln restricting Nilma Darnum to one behind while kicking 28.17.185 itself.

The 184-point drubbing included seven goal-hauls from Sam Batson and Hayden Baker.

Ellinbank had its stars aligned when they proceeded to put Nyora away.

Ben Wragg and Anthony Battista kicked three goals each to lead the Bankers to a 33-point win.

Poowong had an upset win over Trafalgar by three points.

The Magpies had less shots on goal but Trafalgar’s wayward kicking saw them fall short in the 5.11 (41) to 6.8 (44) final score line.

Lang Lang had to dig deep to eventually cruise past Longwarry away from home on Saturday.

A six-goal performance from Daniel Lewis was enough to see Lang Lang home by 39-points…10.9 (69) to 16.12 (108).

The weekend’s results sees Neerim South three games clear at the top of the ladder and yet to drop a game this season. Catani remain anchored to the lower reaches of the ladder with Nilma Darnum still winless in 2022.

EDFL LADDER: Neerim South 40, Trafalgar 28, Buln Buln 28, Ellinbank 28, Poowong 24, Longwarry 24, Lang Lang 20, Yarragon 16, Nyora 8, Catani 4, Nilma Darnum 0.
