Charity Day at Drouin a huge success

DROUIN GOLF

Drouin Golf Club hosted its Charity Day on Friday 9 December with the ladies playing a 4BBB Stableford event while the men played individual stableford.

All funds raised will go to the very worthy cause of the Longwarry Foodbank.

At the luncheon, Debbie Brown from Longwarry Foodbank explained the services provided by this wonderful organization and how important the Longwarry Foodbank is to the local community.

Clubs represented in the Charity Day included Berwick-Montuna, Churchill-Monash, Drouin, Garfield, Keysborough, Lang Lang, Moe, Trafalgar and Warragul

CHARITY DAY RESULTS

LADIES 4BBB

A Grade winners were Glenda Warren (Drouin) and Glenda Gorton (Berwick-Montuna) with 47 points on a countback from Shirley Roberts (Drouin) and Kerri Ahearn (Warragul).

B Grade winners were Chris Stevens and Sandra Caldwell (Churchill Monash) with 51 points, three clear of runners up Linda Bates and Chris Elliott (Moe).

Joy Marriott and Julie Keeble (Warragul) had 25 points to win the best-nine in.

De’Arne Gipp and Louise Ford (Berwick-Montuna) had 22 points to win the best-nine out via a countback.

Down the lines went to Wendy Hitchins (Drouin) and Carol Ronalds (Berwick-Montuna) 46 points, Kerrie Davie and Lee Andrews (Lang Lang) 44 points, and Pam Wallis (Berwick Montuna) and Val Crow (Drouin) with 43 points on a countback.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Shirley Roberts (Drouin) and 10th Chris Stevens (Churchill Monash).

MEN’S INDIVIDUAL STABLEFORD

The winner was Joe Kirby with 39 points, two clear of runner up Glen Flowers on 37 points with Graham Moon a shot further back on 36 points.

Craig Cousins had 20 points to win the best-nine in and Richard Ford had 18 points to win the best-nine out on a countback.

Nearest the pin went to Glenn Flowers on the 14th with no-one hitting the eighth green.

Down the line balls went to Glenn Robinson and Randall Mitchell with 34 points and Dave Ould with 33 points.

DROUIN LADIES

Drouin Ladies played round three of the Downtowner Cup on Tuesday 6 December, with rounds continuing throughout December and January.

Winners will be announced at the luncheon at the conclusion of the seven rounds.

Saturday December 10 the Ladies played stableford and the winner was Marg Purcell (19) with 38 points on a countback.

Runner up was Jeannette Phillips (38) also with 38 points.

Tuesday this week is the ladies annual Christmas lunch, proudly sponsored by Nielsen Funeral Services.

Next Tuesday, 20 December, is the next round of the Downtowner Cup.

DROUIN MEN

Saturday’s competition was stableford with a field of over 100 players taking to the course.

A Grade was a close contest with a count back needed between the top-three players.

A fantastic 34 off the stick for Matt Long saw him claim the win with a score of 39 points.

The C Grade winner also had 39 points with Graham Austin winning by one shot.

B Grade was won by Glenn Robinson with a score of 38 points.

Down the lines went to Cyrus Monk 39, Paul Matthews 39, Kevin Thorpe 38, Fred Allen 38, Kevin Johnson 37, Shane Dwyer 37, Peter Daniel 37, Dave Axford 37, Chris Harrison 36 and Darryl Bryce 36.

Nearest the pins went to: 5th Kevin Thorpe, 8th Kay Feaver, 10th Chris Harrison and 14th Cyrus Monk.

Wednesday’s Stableford competition was played in blue skies and warm weather, with the scores reflecting the conditions.

The best score for the day came from visiting Korumburra player Daniel Gregory, who scored 40 points and took out B Grade for the day.

A Grade was won by Glenn Robinson who scored 39 points.

Down the lines went to Peter Newton 38, Graham Austin 38, Peter Downward 37, Eric Robbins 37, Paul Barratt 37, Brian Maunder 36 and Jurg Pulfer 36.

Nearest the pins went to: 5th Kerry Neilson, 8th Bruce Salmon, 10th Kerry Neilson and 14th Joe Kirby.

This week’s competitions are stableford for midweek and Saturday.
