GARFIELD GOLF

It was a perfect week of golfing weather at Garfield with frosty cool mornings turning into clear sunny days except for Thursday when early tee times were met with a howling north westerly wind.

There was a huge event on Anzac Day with a Children’s Fundraiser Variety Bash played as a three-person ambrose event which attracted a good field of 40 teams of three.

Best in for the day was Jeanette Mitchell, Mark Stewart and Terry Dillon with a great score of 49.5 well in front of the next best in Craig and Chase Hobson and Chris Thorn with a round of 52.1.

A great day was had by all with plenty of quality prizes up for grabs as well as an all-day BBQ.

Another good size field of 59 punters lined up on Monday with Mansoor Ahmad having the equal best score for the week with a great winning round of 43 points, three points to the better of John Cragg.

A final score of 37 points or better was the number for a ball down the line.

A field of 71 came out for Thursday’s regular stableford event with the overall scoring of a good standard considering the early winds and the inconsistency of ball roll on our freshly-cored greens.

Peter Diss was the best in with a C Grade winning round of 41 points whilst Matt Ross took out the A Grade event with a fine score of 40 points.

Charlie Barnes returned to the winners list with a B Grade victory by scoring 38 points.

A final score of 35 points or better was required to get a ball down the line.

Both Craig Cousin and Matt Ross had multiple birdies in their rounds.

Another excellent size field of 130 players attended on Saturday for a game of single stableford with the overall scoring of a better than usual standard.

A couple of standout highlights was the eagle three scored by Russ Loughridge on the first which gave him the bonanza total of 20 balls for his effort, whilst Lee Brown equalled the week’s best score with a B Grade winning round of 43 points.

Peter McNeish played to a handicap of just three by winning the A Grade event with a round of 39 points.

Robert Toth won the C Grade event with a score of 39 points whilst Tim Jeffrey got the judges nod on a count back for the D Grade event to defeat Levi Hudson with a score of 42 points.

A handicap round of 36 points or better was needed to get a ball down the line.

Couple of notes for our Veterans event with a four-person ambrose event at Philip Island on 7 May open to both or mixed men’s and ladies at the cost of $60 per team via a shot gun start at 930am.

A flyer is on the notice board in the wash room.

Also, notification of the country championships at Canberra in November is also available to view on the notice board.

The club will be hosting its annual over 55 – three-person ambrose event on Monday 15 May via a 9am shot-gun start at the cost of $100 per team which includes a two-course lunch.

Entry forms at the club.

Next Saturday is the May Monthly Medal.
