Barratt on a birdie blitz at Drouin

Intermittent showers all day presented a tough challenge for the playing of May’s Monthly Medal at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday.

The conditions proved no problem for Paul Barratt however, who shot nine pars and two birdies on his way to a score of nett 65.

Paul won the Monthly Medal and A Grade by five shots whilst Pete Smith finished runner up with nett 80.

B Grade winner for the day was Stuart Whaley who finished with nett 70, one-shot clear of runner up Wayne Tognazzini who shot a nett 71.

Down the lines went to Ben Jeffrey 72, Geoff Ashby 73, Chris Perry 73, Rob North 74, Glenn Rees 74 and Mark Klaver 74.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Ricky Davies, 8th Pete Smith, 10th Andrew Heagney and 14th Bob Naismith.

Winner of the Super Six was Andrew Heagney with 15 points.

The weather was not kind on Wednesday, however eight players decided to brave the elements with Duart Perrin claiming victory in the Stableford competition by one point, finishing with 35 points for the day.

Junior Club Championships

The Junior Club Championships started on Saturday with four players battling it out for the title.

Ben Smith is leading the Gross competition, with Jensen Cavanagh leading the Handicap Competition. This event will run for the following two weeks.

Pennant

Congratulations to our Scratch Pennant team who won their semi-final on Sunday against Traralgon at Traralgon.

The final will be held on Sunday May 21 at Warragul and we welcome all members to come along and support our players.

Upcoming competitions are Par midweek and Foursomes on Saturday.

DROUIN LADIES

The Drouin ladies played for the Drouin Home Timber and Hardware May Monthly Medal on Tuesday May 2.

Division 1 winner was Sharon Rippon (16) on 71 nett and runner up was Shirley Roberts (12) on 74 nett.

Division 2 winner was Ethel Manley (33) on 71 nett and runner up was Monica Gidley (32) on 75 nett.

The May Monthly Medal winner will be decided by play-off at the next medal day between Sharon and Ethel.

Down the line balls went to Marion Devlin 75, Mildred Lyon 75 and Susie Menzel 76 nett.

Scratch winner was Shirley Roberts with 86 off the stick.

Nearest the pins went to: 5th Sharon Rippon, 8th (2nd Shot) Robyn Carville, 10th Marion Devlin and 14th Deb Daniel.

The nine-hole competition winner was Ethel Manley.

Weekday Pennant was played at Traralgon on Monday May 1 and Drouin had a 3-2 win against Warragul B to keep their finals hopes alive.

Drouin must win against Trafalgar at Warragul to have any chance of securing second place and a finals spot.

This week is the Foursomes Championships, 18 and 27 holes, while next week, May 16, is individual stableford.

This will be followed by the Eileen Smith 4BBB event run over two weeks, 23 and 30 May, partners required.
