PAKENHAM OVER 60s

Pakenham played the Barkley St Dragons Over 60s at Maribyrnong Reserve on Sunday with the Barkley St Dragons winning the toss and sending Pakenham into bat.

Pakenham’s usual openers, Carl Muscat and Phil Brook, had the best opening partnership of the season, in scoring 32 off nine overs before Brook 14 (27) was caught by Ian Walters off the bowling of Daryl Williams.

The second wicket fell at 43 when Alan Ross 6 (12) was bowled by Ian Walters.

There was a 20-over spell and 100 runs between the second and third wickets to fall, this time it was the other Ross brother – Peter 20 (27) – who was caught by Ian Walters off the bowling of Chris Glewis.

The following had all retired, Gerard Healy 19 (30), Dallas Wyatt 21 (30) and, in a Man of the Match performance, David Wright 37 (40).

After two first ball ducks, Jim Gregory was cheered after he got off the mark, but unfortunately, that was as far as he went after being bowled for one off four balls by Ray Matters.

Alan Reitman 8 (13) was the fifth wicket to fall when he was bowled by Ian Walters, and on the second last ball of the innings Gaya Suriarachi 4 (22) was also cleaned up by Walters.

Carl Muscat returned and scored a single off the last ball and John Moore 1 (3) was also not out.

Pakenham had scored a reasonable 6 for 159 off its 40 overs.

Barkley St Dragons Bowling: Man of the Match Ian Walters 6-3/18, Chris Glewis 6-1/14, Ray Matters 6-1/15, Daryl Williams 6-1/15, Phil Brown 3-0/19, Peter Cassell 3-0/11, Wayne Pash 3-0/12, Colin Richardson 3-0/15, Rob Vance 2-0/21, Dave Malthouse 2-0/15.

The Barkley St Dragons were off to a flying start, scoring 50 of first eight overs before Daryl Williams 40 (25) retired.

David Pash 11 (25), Ian Walters 17 (25) and Rob Vance 28 (25) had all retired before Pakenham claimed its first wicket, when John Keaney 2 (5) was bowled by Peter Ross.

The Dragons lost two wickets in two overs when Ray Matters 15 (20) was bowled by Alan Ross and Phil Brown 2 (5) was bowled by Jim Gregory, before Salvatore Centurino 16 (25) retired.

In the 31st over Barkley St Dragons had scored 3 for 161 when the game was called off.

Chris Glewis 24 (20) and Peter Cassell 2 (3) were both not out.

Pakenham Bowling: Jim Gregory 5-1/28, Peter Ross 6-1/22, Alan Ross 7-1/36, Phil Brook 8-0/33, Carl Muscat 3-0/21, Dallas Wyatt 1-0/12 and David Wright 1-0/6.

Although it was another loss, Pakenham’s fielding and batting are definitely on the improve.
