The season officially came to a close for the Garfield Bowling Club on Sunday with the club proudly hosting its Annual President’s Day tournament.

Teams came from far and wide to be involved in the season-ending event, which is always a grand event for the club.

The weather gods once again smiled on Garfield.

After a week of hot weather the day itself was 19 degrees with a cool breeze blowing to keep the ‘player-comfort’ meter high.

A full green of teams enjoyed the sunshine while battling out the three games, interspersed with a lovely lunch.

Tournament Director Damian Brick was quick to thank major sponsors of the event and members of the club itself for their ongoing hard work and support.

“These events take a lot of preparation by many people to make happen, and we want to thank our sponsors, The Garfield Hotel and Country Style Meats, as well as the many club people who put in their time to ensure a perfect day,” Brick said.

The winners of the day were the “Big Bad John” team, consisting of Jim Schroeder, John Rochford, Angus McGillivray and Graham Wingrove from Neerim Districts Bowls Club.

Runners-up were the semi-local “Bottled Lightning” team, consisting of Peter Bott, Graeme Burton, Charlie Harris and Lee Burton.

The event provided a great ending to another good season for the Garfield Bowling Club.
