Armour relishes wet weather at Drouin

DROUIN GOLF

With only a handful of groups managing to avoid the rain the course at Drouin Golf Club held up extremely well; allowing players to post good scores in Saturday’s Stableford competition.

In A Grade it was Jack Armour who won with a score of 36 points, while Scott Green finished runner up with 35 points.

Brian Edwards had 38 points to claim the top spot of B Grade, narrowly ahead of Andrew Heagney who was runner up with 37 points.

The Super Six prize was won by Pete Smith with 14 points.

The Stroud Trophy final was also played on the day.

Father-and-son pair Mat and Aiden Elliot played club stalwarts Graham Austin and Eric Robbins in a four-ball best ball match play.

Congratulation to Mat and Aiden who got out to an early lead and held on all day, winning two-up.

Down the lines went to Tim Lawrence, Simon Caygill and Chris Stoker with 35 points, and Neil Stephens, Pete Downward, Jack Henning and Shaun Doak on 34 points.

Target Hole winner was Marc Buchanan who holed out his second shot on the 15th.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Chris Stoker (Commercial Hotel), 8th Glen Ward (Sharkey’s Barbershop), 10th Gary Florence and 14thBrett Peters (Pro Pin).

It was a change from the normal on Wednesday last week, with a four-ball best ball competition being played.

An outstanding team effort from brothers Graham and Malcolm Rawson saw them comfortable winners with 50 points.

In the runners up spot were Don Stewart and Tim Gargan with 46 points, while third place came down to a countback, with Geoff Closter and Mick Lithgow scoring 44 points.

Down the lines went to Geoff Percival and Rob McCrae 44, Pete Downward and Michael Herman 43, Rob Ballingall and Jim Bransgrove 43, Laurie Pyle and Phil Beruldsen 43, George King and Rohan Berkhout 43, Pete Phillips and Ken Cooper 43 and Joseph Pedemont and Jesse Webster 43.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Rohan Berkhout, 8th Tony Appleby, 10th Peter Newton and 14th Laurie Pyle.

It was a family affair on Sunday with a countback needed to separate Jarred and Lyriq Bester.

Jarred came out on top with 34 points, while Lyriq won a ball down the line also with 34 points.

Upcoming competitions are Stableford midweek and Sunday, while Saturday is Stroke for August’s Monthly Medal.

DROUIN LADIES

Drouin Ladies held the Doris Chambers Stableford Foursomes event on Tuesday 25 June in lovely, dry conditions, kindly sponsored by Lorna Hoskins.

The winners were Sharon Rippon (14) and Michelle Fairlie (26) with 36 points, while runners up were Marg Purcell (14) and Kay Feaver (17) with 31 points.

Down the line balls went to Meagan Ford and Judy Dixon with 27 points and Sue Hatfield and Karen Adams with 26 points on a countback.

Saturday 29 June was an Individual Stableford event for the ladies.

The winner was Vanessa Campbell (26) with 35 points and runner up was Marg Purcell (14) with 31 points.

This week is the July Monthly Medal Stroke event, followed by an American Foursomes event on 9 July and 16 July is an Individual Stableford event.
