GARFIELD GOLF
The heavens opened early last week and then again on the weekend; so much so that preferred lies are now in play at Garfield Golf Club.
Tony Quinn is definitely a golfer in great touch.
After last week’s D Grade win, he came out on Saturday to win the same event again, this time with a stroke round of nett 72.
This all added up to Quinn taking out the Cox Cup title for 2024, defeating Graeme Durran on a countback with a two-round total of 137.
Saturday’s wet weather failed to deter a field of 120 from turning out for their weekly golfing fix.
Peter Johnson turned back the hands of time by scoring an eagle-three on the par-five first.
Russell Maxwell won the A Grade event with a great round of nett 66 whilst Hayden Newnham won the B Grade event with a score of nett 68.
Steven Van Roy tasted victory in C Grade with a score of nett 70.
A final score of nett 74 was the number needed to finish in the prizemoney which was achieved by some 35 players.
Just 12 birdies were scored for the day on the par threes with the 16th and 4th giving up three each of those.
Chris Davies is a player returning to great form; after winning last week’s A Grade event Davies came out on Monday to finish second in A Grade with a very nice 40 points…playing off his mark of just six.
Jake Went won the A Grade event on a countback from Davies, while Kel Trickey won the B Grade event with a score of 37 points.
Even after a bitterly cold start, Thursday’s players had the best of the weather with no rain occurring during play at all for a single par event.
A great turnout of 88 players presented for play with just eight players able to match or better their handicap for the day.
Andre Van Gent blitzed the field with easily the day’s best round, winning the B Grade event with a great total of +6.
Matt Allen, a great ball striker, won the A Grade event in a three-way countback from an inform Ray James and Andrew Rose with a final result of square.
Meanwhile, Warren Arnott won the C Grade event with a total of +2.
A final score of -3 to a countback was needed to finish in the money and this was achieved by a total of 15 players.
Both Chris Kondarios and Ron Seamer scored eagles on the 14th hole while just six birdies were scored for the day on the par threes.
This Saturday is a game of single par.
