Two die in plane crash

A couple in their sixties who died in a light plane crash who were widely reported to have been from Pakenham were from Newborough in the Latrobe Valley.

EARLIER

A PAKENHAM couple in their sixties are reported to have died in a light plane crash in Mudgee, New South Wales yesterday morning.
NSW Police reported emergency services were called to Mudgee Airport around 10.55am following reports a light plane had crashed into a paddock near Henry Lawson Drive while on approach for landing.
Officers from Mudgee Local Area Command attended the scene where they located a man, believed to be aged in his sixties, deceased inside the single-engine two-seater plane.
NSW Ambulance Paramedics attempted to revive a woman, also aged in her sixties, who was a passenger in the plane, however she died at the scene.
A crime scene has been established at the airport and will be examined by specialist forensic officers with police assisting investigators from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
A report will also be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
