All good things come to an end and the football season is no different as the local leagues and elite squads signed off for 2014 in style.
CASEY CARDINIA
Beaconsfield broke a 10-year drought to claim its ninth flag after dispatching Cranbourne by 54 points. All eyes belonged on Daniel Mislicki as the Beaconsfield captain helped motivate his troops and bring them back into the match with a snap goal against the wind turning the tables on Cranbourne. Mislicki would kick five goals and go on to earn the best afield medal and lift the premiership cup with coach Clint Evans. Narre Warren claimed the reserves and under-19s flags while Berwick took out the under-17s with a wayward 4.19 (43) to Narre’s 6.3 (39).
Doveton won the A-Grade netball premiership as it overcame a dogged Beaconsfield 50-43. Rahni Samason, Doveton’s goal shooting sensation, shot all 50 goals for the Doves and earned the best-on court-medal.
ELLINBANK AND DISTRICT – WEST
The Cobras struck form at the best time, kicking away to a 78-point thumping of Kooweerup. Jackson Dalton (4 goals) and Ricky Clark (3 goals) excelled for the Cobras – with Clark earning the medal – while Andrew Proctor toiled on a tough day for the Demons. In the lower grades, Nar Nar Goon claimed the reserves’ crown over Bunyip, Cora Lynn was narrowly edged by the Goon in under-18s, Kooweerup was far too good for Nar Nar Goon in under-15.5s and Cora Lynn started as strongly as it finished as the under-13s claimed a 13-point win over Kooweerup.
In Ellinbank netball, the A-Grade cup was held aloft by Nar Nar Goon after a four-goal triumph over Lang Lang.
TAC CUP
Narre Warren footballer Toby McLean starred in Oakleigh’s 47-point win over Calder Cannons. The Magpie midfielder/forward streamed across Etihad Stadium on Sunday morning to rack up 21 possessions and nine marks in the Chargers’ third premiership triumph.
VFL
Footscray’s 22-point VFL victory over Box Hill featured a number of locals as former Berwick/Beaconsfield/Noble Parker Tory Dickson did things across the win. Former Dandenong Stingray captain’s Mitch Hallahan and Billy Hartung pushed through the guts at will while Bunyip’s own Ben Ross also excelled on a tough day for the Hawks as injuries piled up.
