WITNESSES say it was lucky no-one was injured after an elderly woman crashed her car through a front window of Pakenham’s post office this afternoon.
A woman in her eighties had driven the parked Falcon sedan over the kerb, footpath and several metres into the shop during the busy after-school period about 3.30pm.
Within minutes, a crowd of about 50 onlookers were filming the scene.
A staff member at the Lazy Frog Goods store next door said she heard “a screech then a thud”.
“I’m still shaking. It’s a horrible feeling – you just don’t know what you’re going to see when you take a look out there.”
Telstra Shop assistant manager Abz Aboucham said the main street was “usually filled” at the time.
“That’s the scary part. It’s lucky no-one was hurt.”
Pakenham Newsagency staff member Michelle said two men in their twenties came into their shop soon after a lucky escape.
“They said they were close to getting hit by the car so they decided to each buy a ticket.”
