EMERALD, fittingly named after the place that inspired its design concept is a nominee in this year’s Victorian Building Design Awards (BDAV).
Graham Jones Design in Hallam is nominated for the residential design award in the new houses $300K to 500K category in BDAV’s 20th birthday.
The Emerald home is up for its excellent use of steel and interior design.
Tracey Johnson from Graham Jones Design said conceptual design for the home was started in late 2011 and the young family have been living in the home for a year.
“It was what most builders would see as a difficult sloping site, which was why it was a custom design,” Ms Johnson said.
Accessed via a sweeping driveway that guides guests through a timber gate the site is nestled among the trees and is located next to the Puffing Billy steam train.
Ms Johnson said the design maximised the family’s brief of an understated, low maintenance home which complimented the environment and fits in with the vegetation on sight.
Predominantly Colorbond and timber the home is split into two rationally divided pavilions.
One pavilion contains the living and parent zone whilst the other separated by the entry contains the kid’s zone, garage and storage requirements.
Graham Jones Design has won more than 80 awards over the past 25 years and will learn the fate of their Emerald design on Saturday 25 July.
