First time behind the wheel

YOUNG people are learning to drive with the Pakenham Auto Club (PAC) Junior Development Driver Training program.
On Saturday several first timers and two return drivers were tutored by four PAC instructors, guiding the young people through car control skills on a very cold and windy day. Fifteen-year-olds, Bailey Webb and Shaedyn Renton and 14-year-old Ebony Goodall impressed the instructors with their quick learning ability.
Sunday was action for all comers at the PAC’s winter khanacross.
First outright was Rob Sanderson driving a Hyundai Excel, from second placed Ray Garrad in a Peugeot 405 – nine seconds behind Sanderson and only two seconds ahead of his 16-year-old son, Mitch, driving the same car. Other PAC members to gain results were Shane Walters also in a Peugeot 405, and Greg Shaw in a Nissan Skyline just 10 seconds ahead of his son Paul who was driving a Nissan Bluebird. Also competing were siblings Tim and Madeline Jackson and Anthony Basa driving a Lancer, and Bradley Bugeja in the club’s old Ford Fiesta – all competing in their first Khanacross.
The next events at the PAC’s McGregor Road Complex include; Pakenham Auto Club Khanacross on Sunday 12 July, Junior Development Driver Training (12 to 17 year olds) Saturday 8 August, followed by the PAC Multi-club Motorkhana Sunday 9 August.
